Rainbow Scrappy Challenge 2013

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas holiday and are ready to face the new year ahead.  I know I am.

Angela of Soscrappy blog is hosting this fun challenge again this year.

The colour for January is Hot Pink!  What a great start Smile  I love pink.

It took me a few days to make up my mind as to what I was going to be doing this year but the one block that kept coming back to me was the ‘Boxed In’ block by Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts.  Her block was in the Quiltmaker’s 100 blocks Vol. 2.  and is #171.

Here is my finished block.  Please excuse photo I’m a little out of practice and the lighting is not good.

I also cut out a heap 2.5inchx1.5inch bricks to make up a pattern I saw in one of my magazines that looked cute.  Here are the bricks. Hopefully, I’ll have some blocks to show you next Saturday.

Hot Pink bricks

I also sorted through a small bag of tiny scraps and picked out the following pile to do something with.  Crumb blocks seem the best option for some of these or I could make some little 4 or 9 patches.

The little 1.5inch square scrap I found in the pile looked like a good colour inspiration for a small project I thought.  hmmm..

I also have a little yarny finish I’d like to share with you.  It’s a knitted Moebius cowl with an icord.  The free pattern can be found on Craftsy here.   I had a skein left of the Mini Mochi colour #108 Neptune Rainbow from making the crochet shawl for my mum.

Knitted Moebius Cowl

This is a new to me technique and there are a few mistakes but they are not obvious.  The cowl is for myself and is very cosy….. would you believe I still have a little of that yarn left… a doll scarf perhaps??

That’s all from me for now, I’d better get back to some stitching of bindings!  Why don’t you pop over to Angela’s blog to find out what everyone else is doing for their Rainbow Scrappy Challenge this year.

HAPPY STITCHING

  1. Very inspiring post, Elly! Love your pink scraps and block. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make with your small bricks. I'm always looking for things to make with my crumbs. Don't want to throw them away. Beautiful cowl.
I want to learn to make myself an infinity scarf, a cowl and some small dish cloths. I tried to learn on my own. A little girl tried to help me. I was hopeless. Backup plan is lessons at the local quilt and yarn shop. I start knitting lessons in a couple weeks.

  2. The boxed in blocks are a good choice for a new scrappy challange, you can use up all kinds of colours in these blocks. And I don´t see any mistakes in your knitting, I just see a pretty cowl.

  3. Love the cowl. It looks like a good project for those 1 skein bargains I couldn't live without.

Wow, do you ever save tiny scraps! Impressive. I draw the line at about 2 inch squares. I figure that a stash of anything smaller could be created in no time flat.

  8. What a great block you have chosen for this year's challenge. You should try some tiny little nine patches with your itty bitty bits. Watch out though, they are addictive!
