Rainbow Scrappy Saturday

Can you believe it’s almost the end of March already.

Here is my March Rainbow Scrappy 12” block in green.  I think I may trim it down and add a log cabin frame.  But I’ll wait until I’ve completed all my blocks before deciding.

March Rainbow Scrappy block

It was a good way to try out the Inklingo Pies and Tarts shape collection.   I used the back baste appliqué method for this block after  both hand piecing the pie and machine piecing the tarts.  The placement circles were printed on the back of the background fabrics using this shape collection, as were the cutting and stitching lines for the wedges.   The greens and background came out of my scrap bag.

I also made a couple of Disappearing 4 Patch blocks to try out the technique.   I followed the tutorial on Beth’s blog Love Laugh Quilt  here.

Here is the picture of them so far :-Green disappearing 4 patch projectI’m not quite sure what I’ll make with this, it is 10” x 20” at the moment.   I have a couple of ideas floating around in my head, for example, a small table runner or maybe a little block holder case. I could do with one of those for some of my hand piecing projects so that is at the moment the favourite idea.   Unless anyone else has an idea for this pair of blocks ;) ?

I really didn’t make a very big indent into my surprisingly large collection of green scraps but I have learned to see green in a new light.   I don’t dislike it quite so much :)

That’s all for now, have a great weekend.. oh and if you’d like to see other Rainbow Scrappy Saturday reports go see Angela’s blog SoScrappy .

Happy quilting,

Ellyx

  1. Hi Elly,
I am proud of you! You made your green blocks just in time for the last march weekend. I must confess, I didn´t do anything with my green scraps, I was too busy working on my spider web quilt.
    Have a nice weekend!

  2. Great job. I really like the first quilt. I pretty much used up all my green scraps. Now I can start all over again and make more. Green is my favorite color.

  3. Congratulations for having some fun with your green. Not every color can be a favorite of course, but your blocks look great. That is a different arrangement of disappearing nine patches than I have seen before, I'll have to check out the pattern.

  4. The D9P blocks would make a fun quilt using the rainbow challenge colours...make a couple each month and have a great quilt at the end of the year!
Love your inklingo block... did you enjoy it enough to want to make a whole quilt of it?!?

  8. Great green scrappy projects. Lotto did the D4P as the March block, only we did it in reds and whites, and only cut 1" from the seam. I like the look a lot, and on point they are great together!

  10. Your blocks are absolutely AMAZING!!!

I never think to do a quilt in the same "colors", yet when I see one (or a block) like yours, I think, "WOW!!! LOVE all those GREENS!!!"

    *grin*

    Tks for sharing, Elly!!!

  11. Elly,
Your blocks are fantastic! What clever ways to pull from the stash. I'll have to check out Inklingo's site again.
I've still got some freezer paper stuck in my printer from the first try...maybe I've evolved since last year. Maybe not. LOL
    Have a wonderful day,
    Heather

  12. Love the greens. I hear green isn't your fave color, but your blocks look great!
What to do with them?? I'm using up all my odd bits of blocks and so forth into placemats, potholders, and mug-rugs. The really little stuff is in a box for a future 'crumb quilt' project.
Your work is incredible... thanks for sharing.
    Hugs,
