Tilde’s Summer scrap challenge

Way back in the summer of 2008 I took up a challenge by Tilde to make a project using scraps from my scrap bag.   I made the little double four patch blocks and that’s as far as I got with them and they were put to one side, well the bottom of my WIP drawer to be exact.

Then when Soscrappy set the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge in January this year and it came to February who’s colour was ‘red’, I pulled out this little WIP (which also happened to be red) and thought I’d try get it finished.   See post here:

Well this last weekend I finally completed it :)) And here it is.

I’m really pleased with how it turned out especially the curved borders which, for me, was a first.  I have a combination of simple machine and hand quilting on it.

I also have completed my yellow Rainbow Scrappy block but I’ll keep that for another day ;)

Instead of sewing today I’ve been…

messing with my blog. I hope you like the new look ;)

The template design is from Cute N Cool Blog Stuff and the header I worked out in Paintshop Pro with a lot assistance from DH. That part was a lot of trial and error.

I have been sewing this past week. Here is another Dear Jane block I completed. J-3 Rick’s Volleyball Net I Hand appliquéd the center and then paper pieced the outer corners. Fabric is Colonies Brown II by Windham.

I’ve also been working on Gloria’s Quilt. I have sewn the blocks together for the top (left)and then decided to make a pieced backing (below right).

I have worked on my Clamshell project this past week though I’m not much further forward. It was a case of 3 seams forward and one back… in otherwords I did a lot of un-sewing with it. I’m not so sure I like the fabrics that I’ve chosen to work with..

What I SHOULD be working….IS

A quilt for my mother in law Gloria. 

It needs 4 more blocks made.  2 of the simple 9 patch and two of the one with the stars and small 9 patches.

The blocks can then be joined, maybe a small border, layered and quilted, ready for Christmas.

BUT instead, a dear friend of mine, who is a sweetie and who knows who she is ;)  Has enticed me into starting yet ANOTHER project not long after, I may add, after tempting me with ANOTHER project, which we will talk about another day :)) 

The second temptation is a clamshell project using the new Inklingo program.  This led me to join the Clamshell Club see the button in the right hand column.

I have been working on it today, though I haven’t got very far… nothing new there ;)) No it isn’t sewn yet, this is as far as I’ve got. I then got stuck wondering where on earth I was going with it. LOL…  It is set on a piece of Chocolate Moda Essential Dots which I bought for yet another WIP!! I thought I could use it with these soft pastels to make it a more ‘grown up’  whatever project.  The pastels came in a bundle of FQs from The Quiltroom  as the Fabric Club selection for this month.  It is Flutterby Garden by Buggy Barn.   I found on Quiltshops.com that there is a chocolate that may go with these.  It’s in Buggy Barns ‘Sherbet’ range and has little pastel dots on it.    I may have to buy it. :))

A FINISH!!!! YIPPEEEE!!

Yes folks, I really have finished something.  Not very big and has been on the go since 2005!!! (though a lot of that time lurking in a pile of ufos :))  I have now finished it!!  And without further to do here is the picture of it:-

This was a Project of the Month from 2003 on the Debbie Mumm website.  Unfortunately, it is now longer there.   Anyway, this in my version of it, a pink and beigie brown version.   I was trying to get a ‘vintage’ feel to this.  Snoopy dancing here at my finish!!!    Now for my next ufo.  DD has reminded me I haven’t yet finished her knitted monkey so may meddle with that a bit again. :))

INKLINGO BAG(PURSE)

Yeah! got another WIP finished today. A little bag with panels made using Inklingo to hand piece those hexagons and diamonds together. The picture isn't brilliant. I should have stuffed it with a bit more tissue to plump it out.

A Finish, Celtic Connections

In September 2007 I went to a Pat Archibald workshop on working with foils. This is the result. It started as a kit of fabric, bias tape, backing , batting and foils, with a sheet of a pattern and some celtic motifs. There were various colours of kits and I chose this autumny one no doubt influenced by the time of year. I also picked the motif from the selection provided. I got my binding from my stash as I didn't like the one with the kit, which was a plain dark green same as in border. It's taken me till now to finish because I stalled on quilting the foiled motif. All those unders and overs put me off and yet once I started it didn't take long. Anyway, here I share with you the finished article. One WIP down a billion to go,LOL.. Not really my sort of thing but it was a learning curve and it will look nice put up in September. For the moment I'm looking towards spring :))

Another completed WIP The Sewing Theme

At last, finally, after 2 years of making this small wall hanging I got the last stitch put into it today!! This was a result of an SUC (so ugly challenge) OR 'Make Me Beautiful' challenge depending on your point of view. :-))) My little house group, the KKQs, had an ugly fabric swap. We all had to make something with the worst colour in our opinions. To add to the challenge the fabric had to be provided by another member. I received the insipid pale blue fabric which had little thimbles and spools on it. Ick!! So I thought I'd do pastel with black. But some how that didn't work and ended up using brights on black and the pastel didn't happen. The reason I discovered was because this pale blue fabric is more of a country pale blue and didn't go with brights and definitely didn't go with black. I left the four corner blocks and the 'blade' on the rotary cutter. But went on to make another little quilt using Thimbleberries fabrics to go with that blue. That worked better for the pale blue. (that little quilt was the third attempt. A second attempt got frog stitched completely!!)
The sewing machine is the only hand applique the others are the 'f' word appliqued :)). It is a tracing of a picture of a 1932 Bernina which I found on the web in Bernina's History pages.

My Rabbit Patch project

Here's how my Rabbit Patch project is progressing. I've managed to hand quilt two blocks. Not my favourite part of quilting but it is coming along and a necessary addition to help hold up the heavy 3D appliqué. It is sagging without it. So far I've done the middle flowerpot and the blue bells. Not fancy but functional is how I would describe my quilting. It's 'hurry up spring is coming quilting'.

A finish! My little Japanese bag that has been sitting for ages waiting to be put together is not completed... Yeah! It is raw edge appliquéd and the edges should be more ruffled but the fabric wouldn't play. Never mind it'll get ruffled over time.

5 before 5 (May)

Here's one of my 5 before 5 projects. I'm stuck on. I feel it may need another border maybe with some applique. OR do I quilt and bind and move on.. it's been like this a few years. This was a sample I made for class I ran to teach some basic patches and adding borders. I used a pack of fat eights plus some scraps from my stash including various background scraps. Anyone have any ideas please? I was thinking a border with more hexagon flowers in with stems and leaves but would this be OTT?

The next few enteries are all the WIPs I've managed to find and take pictures of. I know I have some more - a BOB from a BOM to set, etc., and a PIG for DD. And no doubt one or two I've forgotten...

On going Aunt Grace Scrapbag blocks which I may join with other 30s fabrics blocks below, and a picture of the Rabbit Patch which just requires some extra hand quilting before being finished... my aim for January.

1st picture - What Was I Thinking(WWIT) 4 blocks I bought off ebay that someone somewhere at sometime many moons ago started. I think they are feed sack fabrics but are in need of renovating... desperately. I've unpicked one set of blades which took ages... hmmm
2nd picture - 4 PIGs. Christmas project.. pattern somewhere, box of fabric for a sampler that I used other fabric for... this is therefore, I realize, a DOA so I'm going to tidy it away into my stash, PIG in cracker box is for a Pat Sloan pattern -Tulip one, and the front little bundle is some more challenge fabric for which I have a pattern and more fabric in another cracker box.

First picture clockwise starting bottom left,.. I said left, small bundle of blocks to one day make a present for someone, ribbon embroidery to learn - I have 3 little blocks to make for a wallhanging but don't know how to do the RE, little cat cross stitch, heart top made for a workshop on appliqué and then a CW project where I've only done 2 block.
Second picture are blocks BOBs from another workshop I held to do different kinds of curved piecing etc., Hmmm I'm thinking these could be amalgamated with Aunt Grace blocks above.

First picture, one PIG to fabric and pattern to make jewelry case for DD, 2 dolls to finish and clothe, behind doll fabric squares cut for a charity quilt one day, and finally the unfinished bag from a class workshop I held. Second picture another bundle of fabrics for a challenge I'm thinking of a few little blocks from the Dear Hannah book, I have to figure out background maybe...? any suggestions.

Here are another two pics of projects needing attention. (Clockwise from top in both pics) 1st pic a chenilled block given to me, fabric for a Lecturn cloth, a cushiontop? trying out quilting with a difference using embroidery stitches and silk thread, little inspiration pile of fabrics and thread waiting for --- well inspiration to hit. 2nd pic. Bunny kit, a quilt top/cushion to make, an old One of a Kind attempt using a picture drawn by DD as theme, finally a piece of embroidery cut from an old pair of trousers of DD to put in a picture...say no more.
